President Obama, I believe that even though Special Envoy Richard Holbrooke has passed away, he cries out from the grave to you, with these words;
“Mr. President, Libya is not Iraq and not Afghanistan, it is a Dictator with a ‘rag tag’ army that is only potent against its unarmed civilians; and you who are the Leader of the free world – you must act and act now, for the blood that continues to spill will rest on your shoulders.”
With the atrocities out of control in 1999 Mr. Holbrooke had to persuade then President Clinton to act and act immediately, to avoid another total genocide that President Clinton witness during the Rwandans and the Burundians strife that took some 800,000 lives.
In 1995 President Clinton was facing reelection in 1996 and he was too concerned about his Political future rather than the blood that was spilling all over Africa, and if you have read his memoirs you would see how much pangs and pines he has had, “not for what he did, but for what he did not do!”
Mr. President, do not jugulate the Libyan people due to your Political hubris for the present or 2012. I am not suggesting that this matter is easy or that you should act capricious, but people are dying more and more every day. A Physician job is to save lives even if in the end he or she looses their license, and the same is with you.
Yes, if you took some decisive action other than “over-used” words that Moammar Gaddafi should step down and suppose all did not go as well in
Sheriff G Ali
